We understand it can be difficult to choose between the different options of wood flooring. Using our extensive knowledge and past experience we can offer you advice and guidance, helping to find the floor most suitable to you. Going through factors such as whether to have engineered or solid boards, unfinished or prefinished boards etc. We offer advice on the type of floor to go with, we have also built up partnerships with suppliers who offer the highest quality wood flooring in a wide range of widths, depths, types and colours.
When is comes to how much wood flooring you will need, during our free obligation quote and survey, we will be able to get an accurate measure of the floor space. In doing so we allow for 7-10% extra when it comes to boards and 15% extra for parquet to allow for wastage when cutting. During our visit we can also go over other important factors that your need to consider when deciding on your wooden floor. These include whether to go for engineered or solid boards, unfinished or refinished boards and micro-bevel or not.
Engineered/Solid Floors and Unfinished/Prefinished Boards
Engineered wood flooring is made up of multiple layers of wood whereas solid wood flooring is a solid piece of wood cut from a single piece of timber.
Both of these types of woods can come either unfinished or prefinished, so they can be sealed or stained to your colour and sheen preference. The wood we can supply comes either unfinished or prefinished. The difference being that an unfinished floor will need to be lightly sanded after laying and then sealed using a product that is both appropriate for your floor type and your personal preference. On the other hand pre-finished floor is already finished and is available in a wide range of colours and sheens.
Sub-Floor Preparation
A vital step of our floor fitting process is sub-floor preparation.
The sub-floor is what is underneath your current floor covering. A strong sub-floor can extend the life of your wood floor. We make sure your sub-floor is level and solid as well as checking that the humidity is appropriate. Checking the level of moisture helps us to prevent any damage occurring to your new floor such as boards expanding and cupping.
Finishing Touches
Our pride and attention to detail does not stop at just your floors.
It also applies when we move on to the finishing touches in the room. We precisely and neatly fit the floor under door frames, trim and reinstall doors and fit skirting boards. Completing all of these stages to the highest quality so that everything ties in to give you a wonderful floor for your home that will last a lifetime.
