Hello again to everyone. Rob and I hope you’re all keeping well and looking forward to Christmas. Much like October, November has absolutely flown by!
It’s been another hectic month for us, and we’ve been all over the place working on various Floor Restoration and Floor Fitting projects across Somerset and North Somerset. Winscombe, Weston-super-Mare, Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol, Cheddar, Sandford, the list goes on!
No two days are ever the same for us here at Freshwoods, and no two jobs are ever the same, which we absolutely love. We thought we’d highlight two projects that really stood out for us during November.
1 – Floor Fitting Project in Weston-super-Mare
This hardwood flooring project took us to WSM, to a lovely property that was looking to fit beautiful pre-finished Oak Engineered parquet flooring.
We began by marking the floor as a guide to make sure everything was aligned perfectly. Owing to the way the parquet flooring is laid, a lot more thought is required over traditional panelled flooring. Precision is everything!
We then spent the next few days laying the remainder of the parquet flooring. The customer wanted a neat single block border around the edge of both rooms.
Once we’d completed laying the floor panels, there was no need for any additional treatment here as the panels were already pre-finished. A quick sweep up, a final check over and we were on our way. Another very happy customer!

2 – Floor Restoration Project in Weston-Super-Mare
Back in Weston-super-Mare again, this restoration project saw us tackling a pine floor that had been covered up by carpet (boooo), mainly due to the loose boards, gaps and overall general appearance.
Our first port of call was to fix down any loose existing boards, whilst fitting pine slivers to fill any unsightly gaps.
Once the pine boards were ready for sanding, we began the first stage of our four-stage process, starting with 80 grit paper to really get off the worst from the surface. This allows us to then go around with filler, applying it to any really bad areas, to fill in any gaps or screw holes.

With the floor now ready for the next step, we reduced the weight of the sandpaper down to a final 120 grit to make it beautifully smooth. After this was complete, we moved on to the stain. This customer wanted a medium colour to this floor, so we went with Morrells LightFast Stain “Medium Oak”, Saicos – a trusted favourite of ours that will provide strong protection for years to come.
A final once-over, a tidy up and this job was completed. The customer was delighted as were we.
